One aspect of AHAM’s
Conscious Community, important and beneficial to both parents and children,
is Family Networking. This program has evolved over the years as adults
who were parents came to AHAM for their personal guidance, and saw that
what they were learning was very important in bringing up their children
in a conscious way.
The Family Networking program
now has a Conscious Parenting and Child Guidance program that is offered
at least once a year. (Check the Calendar for more details).
Once a parent has completed
this preliminary program, he or she brings the children to the next
weekend program. On the spot “Parent Coaching” is offered
to the parents, along with instruction for the children, on how to remain
steadily in the Heart, or Self, no matter what life presents to them.
There are also “buddy calls” made to an advanced AHAM graduate,
for both the children and the parents, whenever requested.
The below article, written
by Ms. Linda Swanson, one of our Family Networking Facilitators, very
clearly describes this program and what is offered:
What if we could catch
kids before they lose the ‘lightness of simply being,’
letting them know how important it is to stay connected to That Essence
of Life, to the very Source of existence throughout their lives?
This is exactly
what we are doing in our AHAM Family Network program. As adults, our
own spiritual deepening is enhanced by our willingness to drop our positions
and see as the child sees.
Ramana had a suggestion
for a creative exercise in one of our Family Network weekends that really
deepened the experience of the Source of all existence, both for kids
and adults alike. We took a long stretch of white cloth, spreading it
down the length and over the ends of a six-foot-long table around which
we were all seated. The cloth represented Consciousness – God
– the essence of life. From construction paper we created different
forms of life – dogs, fish, cats, people, flowers, trees, etc.
We then set about to “make a world.”
Tufts of cotton (representing
food) were tucked under the cloth and tied off with string to give the
forms substance. The construction-paper-forms were then attached to
the cloth, with the cotton underneath for bulk. It was quite a colorful,
3-D world we created, all stretched out down the table. As we looked
at our “world,” we could see clearly that all the forms
were really part of the endless stretch of white cloth “of consciousness.”
They just had different masks on. And when a creature “died,”
it was easy to see that the cloth, as Consciousness, remained. It is
hard to describe, in writing about it, the effect this exercise had
on us. The feeling of connection with the world, with all of life, vibrated
in us. This is just one of the many ways we connect with “the
way it all is” in a simple yet profound way that both child and
parent can clearly understand and experience.
We also stay closely connected
by phone in between Family Network workshops, supporting each other
in living our lives from the experience of Spirit within us. We would
love to have you join us.
