Ramana
A. Ramana (Mr. Dee W. Trammell)
is the founder of AHAM and the Enlightened Way of Happiness-Now. This
is both a practical approach to “living in the world but not of
the world,” and a Conscious Transformational Process for “completing
it all in this lifetime.” This means a way to always abide in
the true Self, the One Reality, the infinite and eternal Heart of Being,
prior to and beyond time and space, while also still functioning practically
in the world. AHAM stresses honoring and fulfilling one’s ordinary
responsibilities and obligations in life – one’s prarabdha
(current) karma, and dharma (appropriate lifestyle), –
while awakening to and abiding in the Highest State of Consciousness,
which is always, already present in everyone as the One underlying Truth
and Reality.
This combined Purpose and
Conscious Intention that AHAM shares with its students, has come about
as a result of Ramana’s own enlightenment in 1973. It comprises
the substance and essence of all AHAM’s programs, its Conscious
Curriculum.
Ramana's Conscious Transformation
occurred after many years of concentrated spiritual practice, in the
quest to gain back what he had earlier experienced, but had lost.
It began in his early years
from a accident, at about age 5, in which for roughly four years he
experienced himself as actually one with all life, or as abiding in
the Allness of Being. This ended abruptly, following a very forceful
and angry scolding by his mother. This traumatic event left him in the
usually common or ordinary state of frustration and distress. He once
again returned to the ordinary state of feeling himself to be his body,
and living in the world separate and different from everyone and everything.
During his quest or return
back to the true Self, he underwent varied and sundry life experiences,
both high and low – some very good and very pleasant, some not
pleasant or not so good; some to be admired, some not so admirable.
For a period of time Ramana
studied to be a clergyman, attending the Unity School of Christianity
in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Later, living in California, he met Dr. Napoleon
Hill, author of the world famous all time best seller book, “Think
and Grow Rich,” and became for a while the director of the Napoleon
Hill Academy of Los Angeles. Also, during this time, he met Neville
Goddard, the first of his two primary teachers leading him to the final
doorway of total enlightenment.
Neville
(who used only his given name), was the one from whom Ramana learned
how to use the Power of Awareness to naturally and easily bring about
the achievement or manifestation of one's sincere desires. Already being
in this professional field at the time, he began teaching others how
they could use their Power of Awareness to also do this for themselves.
For a number of years,
Ramana used this rediscovered and consciously recognized power of awareness
solely for achieving worldly desires, or having financial success in
his own life. Then, one day it suddenly dawned on him. He was already
very successfully using this One Power for consciously transforming
the events and situations in his life for the better, and intentionally
bringing about the fulfillment of his wishes and desires, could he not
use this same Power for a much higher purpose? Why not use it for completing
his long cherished spiritual goal, which was enlightenment, or final
Conscious Transformation?
The proof of it working
for fulfilling worldly desires for himself, as well as for the countless
others that he had taught it, was unequivocal. So, why wouldn’t
it work for man’s Highest Purpose and his own primary desire in
life – final conscious transformation, or Enlightenment? From
that moment onward he focused his attention and use of this inimitable
Power on this most important single Objective – his own enlightenment.
He did this by continuously,
inwardly asking himself the question: “What would it feel
like to feel as Jesus felt, actually knowing that I am the Son of God?”
He then, with determination, waited for this inner feeling to reveal
itself to him.
Within a few weeks, he
was inexplicably drawn into a bookstore where he had a subtle-body or
spiritual “meeting” with Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. During
this significant, unexplainable spiritual encounter with the Great Sage,
Ramana once again spontaneously reawakened and returned to the natural
state of the true Self, the One Reality. This transformation came about
by the grace of Sri Bhagavan, his then “newly found” guru
who was himself a Christ Being, one who lived and expressed the same
level and quality of Conscious Awareness as did Jesus.
At that particular time,
in 1973, Ramana Maharshi was hardly known in America, and not very well
known to the West in general. He has today become widely known in America,
and elsewhere around the world, much in part due to the immense effort
of AHAM and the spiritual work it is doing worldwide since its founding
in 1978.
From Sri Bhagavan comes
the direct method of Self-Inquiry that was used by Ramana to stabilize
his own spiritual re-Awakening and final enlightenment, and which is
now the basis of all of AHAM'S Conscious Programs.
AHAM's teaching is unique,
in that it gives everyone — anyone who is interested, ready and
committed — the immediate, direct opportunity to Awaken
to the true Self, or the quality of pure Consciousness or Awareness
ever-abiding within each of us as the very Heart and Core of our being.
This is the very Source
of all power. It supports all life and all of one’s life
situations and circumstances that are produced by the ego-mind, which
both creates and conducts all the events in one’s life, whether
positive or negative.
AHAM's unique Teaching
is for those who want to complete it all in this lifetime,
which is already occurring or being demonstrated with many. It is being
brought about primarily from the four simple yet profound processes
contained in AHAM’ Conscious Curriculum.
These four are Self-Inquiry
from Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, and the I-AM Centering Process™,
The Completion Process™, and Re-Vision™
that were developed and contributed by Ramana from his own experience.
There are also other specialized programs in AHAM that were designed
by Ramana for easy and effective living in the world.
Utilizing these four major
tools in your life, when combined together with other tools taught at
AHAM, you too will have the ability to “live in the world, but
not of the world” as Ramana himself realized. These all eventually
led to his own final spiritual enlightenment, which is the highest purpose
of life, and is today AHAM’s one primary mission.
This means that in AHAM’s
Teaching, and its conscious Path or Quest developed by Ramana –
which is now known as the Enlightened Way of Happiness-Now – there
is no conflict between the time and effort you spend in your spiritual
work, and your worldly life with its personal obligations and daily
responsibilities. This is because in AHAM, we have a very simple and
effective way to honor and balance both without having to choose
one over the other. It is a way to remain in the still Balance Point
within you – prior to or behind the mind – while your body
is also daily functioning or living easily and effectively in the world.
